Virtual Reality Welding Simulator: The Future Arrives at Weld-Ed

VRTEX 360 virtual reality arc welding machine

Today's students live in a world of push-button virtual technology that enables them to snowboard down the Alps, quarterback a pro football team to victory, pilot a jumbo jet over the Atlantic, and race a Formula One car through the streets of Paris.

Now, through the use of the same virtual reality technology, students can walk on to an on-screen job site and become immersed in a welding project.

Weld-Ed recently purchased two VRTEX® 360 virtual reality arc welding machines, permanently housing one unit at Lorain County Community College in Elyria, Ohio, and utilizing the second simulator as a mobile unit that will travel to partner colleges.

Weld-Ed Teams with AWS to Drive Home Career Opportunities in Welding

18-wheeled Careers in Welding mobile exhibit

If an ongoing national media campaign isn't enough to promote the need for 240,000 qualified welders by 2019, then perhaps a monstrous 53-foot tractor trailer will help drive home the message.

The 18-wheeled "Careers in Welding" mobile exhibit, emblazoned with Weld-Ed, AWS and Lincoln Electric sponsor logos, is a nationwide educational outreach program that hits the road in 2012 to attract students and second-career adults to the many opportunities available in the welding field.

The expandable trailer features 650 square feet of exhibit space, including interactive displays and virtual reality arc welding simulators.  The hands-on exhibit enables the public to learn about the various career paths in welding, presents educational scholarship information, showcases the different welding disciplines and enables visitors to handle a variety of welding related tools.

Through this mobile exhibit, it is hoped that the public learns more about this well-paying, highly specialized field and the tremendous opportunities available to those seeking a career in welding.

National Welding Educators Conference Slated for November in Las Vegas

FABTECH 2011 participants

The FABTECH 2011 numbers are in:  35,457 attendees; 80 countries represented; 1,300 exhibitors taking up 522,000 square feet of exhibit space... and 50 ecstatic educators who attended Weld-Ed's fourth annual National Welding Educators Conference in the midst of the FABTECH mayhem.

At the conference, Weld-Ed was pleased to present each attendee with an exclusive "Educator Resource Tablet" which contained a custom-built app that linked users to industry resources, event calendars, contact information, organizational newsletters, curriculum sources and affiliate partner information.  The seven-inch tablet also contained industry whitepapers and presentations, and links to important welding resources online.

The 2012 National Welding Educators Conference promises to be even better than last year.  It will take place during the FABTECH expo in Las Vegas this November.
